Artist's Description
This started as an impasto doodling exercise using leftover paint from my palette. First I laid down the majority of the orange color along with some of the blues and dark greens. I painted randomly just trying to make some interesting shapes. These first colors reminded me of the incredible sight of molten lava pouring into the sea which I had seen at the Kilauea volcano in Hawaii in 1999. I then crafted the rest of the painting to recapture the wildness of that scene in which nature, way beyond human control, was creating new land on earth.
