Artist's Description

This is a scene on the via del Governo Vecchio in Rome approaching Pizzeria da Baffetto, the place to get the best pizza in Rome. Although this narrow street is always dotted with cars, bicycles, motor scooters and a variety of debris, I removed all those distractions from this scene to show the raw beauty of the geometric forms created by the various buildings and shadows.

I made my first attempt at painting with oils in 1977 and immediately fell in love with the medium. Since then, I have painted in spurts, often experiencing long periods of inactivity. But once I was exposed to oil painting I have thought about painting almost constantly. After I retired in 1996, I became active in the performing arts as a musician, singer, actor, theater set designer and director. Through all this, I never stopped thinking about painting, and now painting has become my primary creative outlet. I have never had any formal art lessons.
