This is a view of the facades of three buildings on Stortorget (Great Square) in Stockholm, Sweden. It was painted from photos taken by the artist on May 26, 2008. The painting was started with an underpainting of complementary colors of the local colors. Some of the underpainting shows through, especially in the building on the right and in the sky. There are a lot of thin glazes applied in this painting, particularly in the dark side of the green central building and in the shadows.
I made my first attempt at painting with oils in 1977 and immediately fell in love with the medium. Since then, I have painted in spurts, often experiencing long periods of inactivity. But once I was exposed to oil painting I have thought about painting almost constantly. After I retired in 1996, I became active in the performing arts as a musician, singer, actor, theater set designer and director. Through all this, I never stopped thinking about painting, and now painting has become my primary creative outlet. I have never had any formal art lessons. From books, and more recently the Internet, I have learned a lot. Mostly, however, I figure things out for myself, and this is the most rewarding part of the experience for me. My...
