I made my first attempt at painting with oils in 1977 and immediately fell in love with the medium. Since then, I have painted in spurts, often experiencing long periods of inactivity. But once I was exposed to oil painting I have thought about painting almost constantly.

After I retired in 1996, I became active in the performing arts as a musician, singer, actor, theater set designer and director. Through all this, I never stopped thinking about painting, and now painting has become my primary creative outlet.

I have never had any formal art lessons. From books, and more recently the Internet, I have learned a lot. Mostly, however, I figure things out for myself, and this is the most rewarding part of the experience for me. I am a slow, meticulous painter, and oils really suit my style. My favorite subjects are landscapes and buildings, but I paint other things from time to time.

I exhibit at some local shows, but through the Internet Iím now able to reach many more people than by other means. It's exciting to be able to share my art in this way. I hope you enjoy it.

Many of my original oils can be found at etsy.com/shop/alanmagerfineart where they can be purchased. If you're interested in an original that's not currently on Etsy, contact me, and I will list it on Etsy to make purchasing it quick and easy.
