Moonlight bathes the snow-covered campus of Plymouth Normal School. This painting is based on a black-and-white photo in the 1933 Plymouth (NH) Normal School yearbook. This returns us to a time when American elms were one of the most common shade trees in New England. Now, sadly, because of Dutch elm disease, they are all gone.

I made my first attempt at painting with oils in 1977 and immediately fell in love with the medium. Since then, I have painted in spurts, often experiencing long periods of inactivity. But once I was exposed to oil painting I have thought about painting almost constantly. After I retired in 1996, I became active in the performing arts as a musician, singer, actor, theater set designer and director. Through all this, I never stopped thinking about painting, and now painting has become my primary creative outlet. I have never had any formal art lessons.
